MT 4.2+ 500 Errors

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
In just about every install I've seen with Movable Type 4.2 and 4.21 there has been a problem when changing styles in the form of a 500 Server Error.  Here's the fix from SixApart:

In /plugins/StyleCatcher/lib/StyleCatcher/CMS.pm, locate
the following code is present around line 273 (in Movable
Type 4.2):

print STDERR "styles=$styles\n";

Replace this code with the following (comenting this line
out so it is not executed):

# print STDERR "styles=$styles\n";

In other words, comment line 273 out.  Tada!  No more 500 errors and the style gets successfully changed.

On up to MT 4.21

Lets see how publishing time is now.  Under 4.2 it seemed to take longer than 4.12...maybe its just in my head though ;oP

Still on MT 4.2

For now...after trying out a number of things, then a clean install of MT 4.12, attempting to upgrade, and running into endless problems using the Backup/Restore functions in MT, I now have menus at least in Firefox.  Not sure at all what caused that.  But just in case, I still have my old copy of 4.12 ready to go.  I opted to use a separate database and do a clean MT 4.2 install.  I'm sure we'll be offering the upgrade soon - I can't wait.  Nothing is ever easy - especially with MT.  Oh, one problem I have now - I get a 500 error if I try to change the Style or Layout.  Oh well, at least this time around it didn't host the current Style and Layout...

MT 4.2 Excitement Shortlived.

Well, speaking post-upgrade...I think MT 4.2 is broken - at least from an upgrade standpoint.  Clean installs seem to be a non-issue.  Having upgraded from 4.12 to 4.2, menus in Firefox are now broken (they still work in IE) and there's some formatting issues I'm seeing in the 'Tools -> Plugins' page where the boxes rendered around the plugin name are not spaced right on the last 2 plugins, with no padding between it and the main box.  Also, it doesn't look like rolling back to my previous install is possible - I tried it and was greated by an 'Invalid Login' error message.  Argh.

 Oh, and I guess it also bears mentioning that SixApart has removed the download from their site, with a lovely 404 error in its place.  I guess that, perhaps, is the most telling of all.  Does this mean the release is being pushed back?

UPDATE 18:55 EST: It looks like the download page is back.  No telling what the issue was...

Whee...

Upgraded to MT 4.2.  Some Dashboard changes have been made.  I still haven't got a fix for why the ReCaptcha plugin won't display on the registration page.  Meh.

Livia and I are trying to plan a trip to the beach next year and we're looking for people to join. We've got a few people committed, but we want to extend the invite. The destination? Outer Banks. Time? Either May or September. Maybe June depending how many people want to come. Going to be finalizing things in the next 2 months, so if you're interested, let one of us know!

Slightly crazy?

On one section of trail, there's a nice root that provides a nice spot for liftoff:

Of course, not everything is as it seems:

Yes, there's a bit of a drop off.  Speed and angle are pretty important here...but I'll be darned if it isn't one fun-as-hell section of singletrack.

Well, been working on more things around the house - have another room painted.  Yay.  Well, almost, still have the finishing touches, windows, trim, etc.  Thinking I might wait to do the baseboards until the floors are finished.  Less touch-up that way I think.

Also been biking a lot.  Thinking about maybe trying to organize a group ride with people from work.  Not sure if anyone would be into that.  Going to be going again Monday morning at 9AM.  Want to join?  I'll be at Frick in the lower lot around then.  Otherwise, you'll just have to join late in the game.

Assuming anyone reads this ;oP

Going to have to get some pictures up here soon.  Ooh.  That reminds me, I have some crappy cell phone pictures to post.  Coming up next...
