Progress!

Well, some anyways. Got the carpet pulled up in two of the rooms, still have the padding in
the one room - at least the padding is loose from the tacks. That leaves two rooms to rip
up carpet in - only one of which I'm concerned with now. The main bedroom doesn't have
hardwood floors - so I'm going to have to re-do the carpet there, which isn't so bad since I
wanted carpet for the stairs and the upper hallyway/landing area. This way I just have it
all done at the same time.

The hardwood floors dont look too bad - they should be much easier to re-do than at the last
house. That had carpet and padding that was glued down to the entire floor. That sucked to
strip and prep for just sanding. Here this will be stripped just once then sanded.

And in between all that is painting. I have some basic colors picked out for the bedroom
and my media room/office but I still need to get swatches and settle on a color scheme.
Basically what I got right now (and will share) is that my office and bedroom (since they
are ajoined by a door) are going to tie in to one another. They'll be different colors on
the walls, of course...but..you'll just have to wait and see what I mean.

There's also some drywall work to be done - the one room has two doors to no where - there's
drywall on the other side. The one door is right next to a closet and lends itself to an
easy solution - one big-ass closet. The other door, however, I had planned on just taking
down the framing and trim and drywalling over it. Today, whilst ripping out the carpet I
had a better idea - a built-in bookcase/shelving. Since there's about 4-5 inches recessed
into the wall I can make a 10 inch deep bookcase that won't protrude much into the room at
all and it should look pretty cool since the door framing/trim will match all the others in
the room.

That's all for now....more later =D

Today is the Big Day!

Moving today to my new place. Well, not much moving per se, but I will be
sleeping there tonight from now on. I will be moving stuff over time, but
I'll have the important stuff there today - Thanks Mom and Dad!!!

So that means I might start ripping the carpets out tonight depending on
how gung-ho I am about it when I get out of work. I'll try to take
pictures, but since the electric doesn't get turned on til tomorrow, I'm
not sure how well they'll come out with just the flash.

Yeesh, yea - it's been a bit since the last update. Sorry about that
readers. (what, all 3 of you? ;oP) Been very hectic between
work, finishing stuff up and getting stuff together for the new house, and
working on a web site. However, with the house work set to begin soon,
I'm sure I'll have a lot of pictures to add to my album and get that
going. That'll be nice; I'll have a nice photo album chronicling the
progress on the house.

Just some plans so far:

  • Tear out all the carpet

  • Refinish all the wood floors

  • Do some dry wall work, making a larger closet in one room

  • Add a banister

  • Sell the pool (Anyone want a pool + pump?)

  • Oh yea...CLEAN everything.

The house hasn't been lived in for quite some time so it is definitely
overdue for a good air-out. That and bleach and Simple Green. Btw,
Simple Green is by FAR the best gen-purpose cleaner out there, not to
mention it is bio-friendly. Going to also have to run a gas line for a
gas dryer - the house has gas heat (2 furnaces) and a gas stove - so why
was there only provisions for a 110v dryer I will never know.

I'm already thinking about colors to paint the rooms and I'm looking
forward to this. It's a huge house and it is going to look absolutely
awesome over time. I'm pretty happy about the fact that when I walked
through it the other day - it was over 80 degrees outside but it was
actually cool in the house, even on the second floor. Nonetheless, I have
a window-unit air conditioner for my bedroom so I'll be set.

Man does this car look sweet - and talk about one lucky writer who got to tool around in the 2009 Camaro Convertible Concept.

Here's the concept:

Head on over to the Gallery at Jalopnik.com for the real deal!

Man what a lucky bastard...that thing looks GORGEOUS!

Yea, it's been a while. I apologize to my faithfull readership.

It's been a busy few weeks - pretty much all my free time has been consumed by one thing or another. And all the running around looking at houses has paid off. Our bid has
been accepted and we are slated to close on the house May 29. I am beyond excited - I couldn't be happier with the house that my parents and I decided on. There is almost
nothing that needs done to the house and I believe we've gotten a tremendous deal on it.

Very exciting to think that in a month's time, I will very likely be sitting in my own house. =D

House Hunting?

I have been, and in doing so, I've come across a pretty nifty site that lists not only houses for sale in an area of your choosing, but oh so much more! The site is href=http://www.trulia.com>trulia.com and it integrates with Google Maps very nicely! It lists information on the house, provides linkage
to where the home is listed for sale as well as prices for similar homes in the area. You can even view recently sold homes in the area along with all kind of useful data such
as 'Heat Maps' for home prices. So if you are out there looking, I highly recommend going over to their site to look around.
